“The future is here, it’s just not widely distributed” is a quote one of Microsoft’s Research guru’s Bill Buxton uses a lot. I believe he attributes it to William Gibson, a science fiction writer…at least Bing says he’s the originator…anyway, with Advertising Week coming I was reminded of it and looking forward to hearing the industry luminaries talk about what is coming, only to realize it’s already here.
There are some amazing sessions planned that I’m sure I won’t miss. Always look forward to hearing Bob Greenberg of RGA, Nick Brien of Mediabrands, anyone from P&G, and of course all the Microsoft keynotes. One that caught my eye from OMMA Global was How Dunkin Does Social with Frances Allen of Dunkin Donuts. Growing up in Chicago, it was a treat to get the dozen Dunkin Donuts and fight my dad for the Buttermilk one that was more muffin than doughnut. I’m very interested to hear how a food service brand is using social networking to improve brand and sales.
As with all the industry events, a lot of the real information is the buzz after hours/between sessions, etc. Excited to hear how folks are viewing the Microsoft Advertising in the light of recent announcements and our presence at the Cannes Lions.
There will also be plenty of networking opportunities as well. No question this industry hides its competitiveness at events better than most. Maybe it’s to get into the right parties, but we can hope for some good panel debates and discussions.

We’ll be trying to live up to Mr. Gibson’s quote for sure in a few areas.
